Second Water cooling Project

Welcome to the home of my second water-cooled rig. It is not the best but it’s much much better than any air-cooled system. Sorry about the low-quality webcam pics. It consists of all of the following parts:

AquaStealth JaggedEdge Waterblock
Lexan Waterblock Clamp
RIO-180 Submersible Pump
120mm Aluminum Radiator
~4ft of Black Rubber Hose
120mm Big Sunon Fan

Well, I started with a 1gig AMD Athlon Thunderbird. My Alpha PAL-6035 heatsink with a ys-tech fan was struggling to keep this processor cool @ 1.2ghz. So, I figured I’d better water cool it. So I carefully selected the most cost-effective parts that would give me the best results. I ended up ordering everything but the Sunon fan from BeCooling. I purchased the Sunon fan from where I work (Microcenter) for around $20. I had to cut apart the back of my case (Antec KS382) and pound a part of it flat to mount the fan and radiator.

I had to remove my motherboard to mount the block to the cpu due to the 4 mounting screws the lexan clamp uses to mount the block to the cpu. But that was no big deal.

As you can see I also needed to chop a little bit off of the lexan clamp to fit it around the capacitors. The reservoir I am using is a Tucker(generic Rubbermaid) plastic food dish. I have a RIO-180 (don’t buy this pump) inside the dish which will soon be replaced by an Eheim 1048 in an inline setup.

(See the pump in there? There’s WaterWetter in there too!)

Well, that’s all folks. I encourage everyone and their brother to build a water cooler system for their CPU or anything else in need of better cooling. And as you can see, you can fit a powerful super cooling system into a small enclosure without breaking the bank ($89 for everything).
